Resulting in a merger of the Barber Lumber Company and the Payette River Lumber Company, the new company Boise Payette Company, the Emmett mill opened in 1913. Eventually the Boise Payette Company became the Boise Cascade Company (1957). The Boise Cascade Sawmill in Emmett closed in 2011 after 98 years of operation. Boise Cascade gifted 34 acres of the mill to Idaho Foundation for Parks and Lands in 2017.
